Beetle Mechanics
Hi all. I'm looking for Beetle Mechanics preferably in the West Rand area. Someone who is passionate about beetles and is not going to make me have to sell my house to be able to afford their fees. I bought my son a 1968 beetle and we have spent a fortune on this and that but it is getting nowhere. I have just replaced the battery and spent R1200 and now it doesn't even start!! It will definitely be fault finding work.

Re: Beetle Mechanics
Pal, these are pretty simple cars to maintain and run. Why not buy a Haynes manual and teach yourself, and your son about the car. Feel free to ask questions here, but I guarantee you'll probably end up doing a lot yourself, and you'll enjoy the bonding that will occur with your son.

Re: Beetle Mechanics
What Alan said ^^^
Whenever people ask me for advice on buying their kids a Beetle, my first question is always, "Is he'she a mechanic or willing to become one?" ACVWs are no longer cheap transport (get a Citigolf or Tazz if that's the need). And, as simple as they are, very few mechanics these days understand how to care for them and their weaknesses. As you've discovered, if you rely on someone else to keep the car on the road, it gets expensive fast.
If you get a manual and ask questions on these forums, you'll very quickly learn how to keep your car on the road, with the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself, properly.
In the meantime, call Bruce 0845021099. He's an air-cooled specialist in Horizon, who knows his stuff and won't screw you blind.
