I'm now busy tackling the front beam, got the spindles off and lucky for me the link pins were in pefect condition, (obviously replaced just before i got it) i really hoped the king pin looked the same and thank goodness it did, i did have to find new fibre thrust washers though and adjust them to the right thickness. The new dropped spindles are on and look good
I was considering powder coating the beams but on advice from Merlin opted just to paint them, took them to get sand blasted today. Trailing arms are stripped of old paint, polished and sealed with Q30.

Messiest part of the build so far was cleaning up inside if the torsion beams and bars, got them nce and clean making sure to mark them all so they go back in the same way, greased them back up and now busy reinstalling! Urethane bump stops will have to go in after the it is back on the car.

The workmanship is perfection..really good work!!! I realy love the thread so far....I not read so good...me likee da pictures tooo much...
Words of caution just as a lessons learned as I learned the hard way:
Dropped spindles widen the front wheel track by a cm on each side, which does not seen like much...but.....just look at your wheel offset and your choice of brakes if it be drums or disc and that may make or break the hard work that you put into that beam....!! Looking at the work you have done so far......I think that you most probably would have planned for that already...I just had to throw my 5 cents worth in there.
Hehe thanks, Pierre, i know exactly what you're talking about and i did look very carfully at my wheel's ET before i baught them. Norrowed beams are very impractical so thats why i've been quite carefull, they should fit in nicely. I just like the ride of the dropped spindles more, no need for castor shims ect to get the ride right.
Agreed....narrowed beams can give the right look at times, but has it drawbacks......it looks right, but drives like a tractor..!!! I just shudder to think how some of those people drive with their what I called " Slammed prams" Yep...once again in agreement....dropped spindles is the way to go...drop that Volksie the cheap way without castors shims and find out what a Volksie feels like with luxury cars very overactive power steering..one minor rut in the road and you end up a street down from your house if you do not hold on to that steering wheel.
Enjoy and keep on posting pics...it starting to feel like Gas Monkey...cannot wait for the next episode...LOL!!!
