Fans can explode at high rpm so it you are going to spin your motor, buy a welded , balanced fan when you order your crank and other stuff from the US --its called insurance.
The VW turbine takes a lot of power to turn. -Try and go for a run down the street for a bit without your fanbelt - No - just a bit-- dont pull the ring out of it!! , and see what a kick in the pants even a standard 55 oval can get from that.
The inertia of the fan does place a lot of linear and radial stress on the bearings, so dont ever replace bearings with the cheapest you can get - you will regret it. And buy C3 clearance bearings , to allow for the heavier operating loads. But , having said that, RPM does not actually kill alternators - look at what they rev to in modern cars - and alternator failures from operating at high RPM are rare in these screamers.
When building a trick engine, Take into account the added inertia that a properly driven fan will provide when lightening flywheels and other components, in terms of quick rev-ability and sustaining inertia between gearchanges. I would really like to know what speed the fan stalls (cavitates) at, and what the fabled terminal speed at which it will go no faster is. perhaps a fan or turbine Boff could comment on this.
AND yes!--- Nice serpentine kits -- do look FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAken good.
S.A made ones with golf cambelt tensioner pulleys fitted to tension them look like the mods I do on John Deere garden tractors grass cutting decks to stop belt slap under heavy cutting load.
Buy a good, smart looking kit--- and Nick -- they dont just break., unless its one of those cheapies that erranos (sic) were selling before they did a wheels-up.

Yip as mentioned the reason the alti packed up twice and the auto lec excuses was RPM until we found a voltage differance between the left and right Coil packs and the other wiring issue it is running fine @ 6500
It was od for me that my rx one reving 10k did not pack up

This is the kit that I'm running on my car. Both the crank and alternator pulleys are smaller that original.
Cooling wise they are fine, but the alternator does not charge when idling.

Thanks... There is no breathers on the tappet covers, only the two on the engine itself that feeds to that blue tank.
I fould that breathers on the tappet covers always leak oil. The dry sump system that I'm running does not really need a lot of breathers as it will vacuum the casing. There is two scavage pumps on it.

OK never realised that you were running a dry sump, although the hoses should have given it away - certainly you have enough "breathing" with 2 scavenge pumps.
Why I asked about the tappet cover breathers is that those good looking aftermarket oil fillers have such a skinny breather outlets that really cant handle any serious volume of air.
