Finally last week I got lucky, found an ad on Gumtree and managed to pick up the perfect project car.
The ad read
'1976 Puma GT - Stalled project. Body only, no mechanicals. Body is
completely block flatted and perfectly straight, no accidents.
Floorpan needs replacement or spaceframe must be built. Body is
complete with all windows, doors and fittings. Interior must be rebuilt.
R9000.00 negotiable.'
The ad didn't look like much but I think I got a bargain.
The previous owner had stripped it down to repaint and never got to finish the job. All the parts and more were all packed away neatly in little boxes and the car is virtually complete. As a bonus I got two sets of dual carbs with manifolds. Original Puma mags and the gearbox is still in there.
My son's comment when he saw the pictures.
The old tires were too shot to tow the car on an A frame from Port Elizabeth to East London so I fitted some spare Rostyles I had lying around hooked it up and drove it back.
Now the fun begins
not much. I had our local Baysville High School fibreglass and paint shop expert come look at it and I'm still waiting for him to come back to me with suggestions. (apparently the new head master is a bit sticky)
