Yes, kids love them. They're also useful for storing luggage while camping if you don't have kids.

I've always thought them dangerous for kids - what if they fall out - it's quite a drop to the floor? Luggage storage DOES make sense though I'll start suggesting that to hirers from now on. Thanks for that Fig

Haha, I guess if you have a very wriggly sleeper for a child ...
In practice, though, because of the concave shape of a stretcher, it's actually quite difficult to get out, never mind fall out.

I agree that its a bit of a useless feature but in my opinion this ads value to a Westy....In my opinion this ads value to the originality factor and people find these kind of "odd" parts interesting. When we go camping my daughter Anja loves to sleep in the stretcher. She is now 9 years old. All we added to her sleeping comfort is a fold up matress, (the type you buy at game.) The only down side I noticed was the thermal insulation in the winter. The canvass in the roof is thin and it gets quite nippy in the winter. Then she prefers to sleep in the campcot over the front seats.
