Because this is a Westy I'll have to make a customized lid surround Terry - no problem...

I am not familiar with the Westy but for interest sake what is the difference to a standard T3 engine lid. My CI I put the Gillo conversion in and all I done was make 2 pieces of ply wood with 50mm lip all around to take up the difference in hight for the fold down bed. When I am not using the ply wood spacer lids I use them for tables. Hope you come right, its a nice camper to tour with.

Terry, they fitted a neat metal lip around the engine compartment opening which is about 10cm high - it could have been 6cm but they made it higher than necessary. I'll make a plywood surround to bring everything up flush, and then put a 3 cm thick covered piece of foam rubber over the back area. In order to make it possible to sleep on the rock 'n roll bed, which will now be 10cm too low when pulled out, I'll have a 10cm thick covered cushion made up which will be placed on top of the pulled out bed so that the whole sleeping area is the same height. If you lie with your head facing inwards it'll be comfortable as you'll have thick foam below you, with the thinner foam where your legs rest.

I'm quite excited about taking this Westy on a trip :) Power steering and aircon will be a pleasure, as will better handling and road holding when compared to my T2's...I think I'm getting old :)

Congrats Derek

I am sure she will be a hit. I agree that most people prefer the bays but there is definitely a market for people preferring a more comfortable ride.

Enjoy
