Hi Forum
I would like to know if it will be possible to fit a VW Polo 1.2TSI motor and gearbox to beetle?
If so, can you advise what changes needs to be considered?
What alternative engine, besides boxster engine, that is similar in performance can be used? Would any changes to the standard gearbox need to be made?
Regards
Allen.

Re: Alternative VW engin
Hi Allen
I would guess the biggest issue with fitting any new generation engine would be the factory "K-line" systems were the ECU , Key and instrument cluster have to be linked . I don't think attempting this is even a option , although anything is possible if you throw enough money at it I don't think this is viable. You would have to use a beetle gearbox, yes you would have to use a adaptor of sorts and maybe even have to modify the internals in the box. You also need to consider cooling ... Stick with a good air cooled motor and save yourself allot of hassle and money .

Re: Alternative VW engin
If you can get the engine, loom and ecu with all vacuum pumps and sensors ect... It should ve pretty straight forward.
A simple ecu decoding should fix what you are worried about most.
If the bolt pattern is the same as n golf 1/2/4/5 then you should get adapter and flywheel from gilo engineering

I can get a complete engine with wiring and ECU. Would you know if anyone that can decode the ECU?
I shall check bolt patterns

Re: Alternative VW engin
Why go for the 1.4 if the engine weight is the same as the 1.8?

Tell you what i did a couple of years ago. My replacement for the beetle motor was a 1600 cross-flow ford motor with dual 40mm side draft webers and a 282 cam and free flow dual exhaust with banana branches.Gave plenty of Golfs a hiding.all fitted to the standard 1600 box. Then sold it to a Golf driver. Then my next beetle received a Datsun 1800 stanza motor and even more potent. Now i'm into Kombi's

8v golf engine(import) with gilo adapter is a nice straight forward conversion
I have frankenstein microbus though

Very happy with it
