Imagine if these were the prices you'd still pay to get work done on your beetle!!

I've also been looking for a late model transmission and managed to find a nice '76 SFAS box, unfortunately it was still attatched to the car, but for R3000 i didn't mind, so i baught it and dragged her home, another project for later on maybe :) for now box is out and she is resting peacefully under a witstinkhoud tree in my yard.ImageImageImage

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

wonderful pics and great to have a history like that...

How about some engine specs? You cant post pics of an Okrasa crank, what looks like AA rods and straight cut gears and not mention what all is going in there.....

1962 T1 resto cal project

Haha okay Tony, ja its 76.4 okrasa crank, Scat pro street rods, 90.5 Mahle P/cylinders, comes out to around 1966cc. Crankcase is a universal AS21 case and Scat 1.5 qrt sump. Running a CB2250 cam 296 advertised dur and .420" lift at cam, still deciding if i'm gonna use the 1.25:1 rockers i have or standard 1.1:1. Both solid shaft. Compression ratio is set at 8.8:1 As far as heads go i have CB 044 round ported heads with 40 and 35.5 valves with dual valve springs and straight cut gears. On top will be brand new (13 years old) 40mm Dellortos. Magnaspark ignition and stainless steel sideflow exhaust. Hoping for a nice torquy motor, good for some lively city driving

Nice, nice, nice
Sounds like you have done plenty homework.
CB doesnt recommend 1.25 rockers with that cam, so 1.1 it might have to be. Still, its over 11mm valve lift, which is plenty for a 40mm intake.
The only change I'd make is to get rid of the straight cut gears and go with helical type. You dont need the spring pressure that requires straight cuts and unless you really like the noise, it isnt worth it. Each to their own, I have straight cuts because I need them, but I am really not fond of the noise/sound.

You'll definitely upset a few cars with that combo! GTi's and VTEC's will hate you ;-)

Ja they don't recommend anything bigger than 1.3:1 and up, but this is the combo that Pat downs sold me when i baught the cam and lifters from him so, but i agree, will probably go with the 1.1's. As for the straight cuts i don't mind the sound, its just from all the materials i've read that when using dual springs one should go for straight cuts, she's gonna be noisy anyway :) what i can't seem to find locally now is 8mm cmoly head studs, everyone is out and i'm not going to the states anytime soon, so if you know of anyone who has please let know.
