I think they just want a receipt for the engine that you now have from whoever you got it from.

Some of the better licensing departments do ask for it, as this will allow then to register the car with its full titles, model number and date of manufacture.

if you do not get this , they will mark you documents as "Unknown" and the date of manufacture 1/1/1963 (example) or 1st date of license as being the date you now license the car.

So if you have a true vintage, your papers will not reflect this.

You can sometimes get this from VW Germany, but the info on VWSA cars are lacking.

Best you take a book with that covers your Vin number, and some times they will take that as gospel.

Branden... I did an engine change on the kombi and took the papers to Kraaifontein. I wasnt asked for anything other than the police clearance.
Maybe give them a try.

Got it all sorted. The weight of the van was different. To when I done road worthy to now I have changed the engine. So with the old weight certificate and the new one had to go together with reg docs for a loa so municipality can confirm that the weights are right. What on earth next! Well all paperwork is ready for me to collect.

This is too late for you, but may be useful to others:

If you have the have a vehicle weighed to complete registration, then make every effort to lighten it as much as possible before weighing. That way it might fall into a cheaper licensing bracket.

Remove all clutter from the car, remove the spare wheel, tools and any accessories, and present the car at the weighbridge with no more than 5 litres of fuel in the tank.
