Bonnievale will never be the same again ........ "oom Gert" as he was fondly known passed away this morning at his home in Bonnievale. A true gentleman and a gentle soul.
At 89 years of age, he was still driving his beloved bus which took him on many adventures to various African countries. May his soul rest in peace.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.
Oom Gert's funeral is at 11AM tomorrow in Bonnievale. It is short notice but a few busses at his funeral would be a nice gesture to send him off - let me know if you can make a plan to get there

I wish Gert had written a book or documented his travels in his Kombi. Together they really traversed and explored Southern Africa properly. His funeral service was a lekker celebration of his life today, and it was nice seeing some of his friends and family again, and meeting new friends who shared interesting stories about the old guy.
We had 4 busses to accompany him on his last drive. I think he would have been really chuffed - Kombis were a HUGE passion in his life

Thanks to the Kombi Volks who made the drive to Bonnievale, Hennie and Joan, Christo, Franscoir and Suzelle, and Gerhard from Bloem who brought his split Westy with him
