Hi all,
I may have found a mid 70's Delux baywindow bus which we are quite excited about.
Are these buses a high risk for theft?
What precautions do you take against theft.
Thank you

Re: Baywindow security
A baywindow was stolen in Roodepoort this week. Beetles have been targets for years now.
As bus values increase, there's no doubt that they will attract more attention from scaly types, especially as they are easy to break into and start.
A hidden ignition kill switch is a must. I also favour a fuel cut-off solenoid at the base of the fuel tank, activated by a hidden switch. This improves both fire and theft security: if your bus catches fire, you can cut the fuel supply and if it's stolen the thieves will only have the fuel in the carbs before it cuts out, hopefully somewhere it will attract attention.
Best security is to never let your bus out of your sight.

Re: Baywindow security
Many years ago I had a friend who was seriously into snakes. Every day he'd take one of the larger ones, at random, and leave it to roam freely in the back of his Bay' panel, whilst he was at work; at a retail store in Jo'burg.
He never bothered about locking the bus, because everyone knew... ...and there was always an abundance of free parking available around his parking bay.

And don't underestimate the value of contraptions to lock the steering, gearshift or pedals. Anything that is visible and will make extra work for potential thieves.
