VW's and points surpression?

Hi,
frustrated with a small buzz I have through my system in my bus. I know our VW's are not the greatest when it comes to surpressed electronics, and the points whine is blatant. Whats the best option here? Any ideas where to buy a decent surpressor for the +12V feed etc?

I never had a problem when I ran points.

On Angrrr I originally used a 1900 electronic dizzy which I then replaced with a Gotech Pro X and crank trigger wheel for ignition. I only had one computer that I could plug into the Gotech unit and when that computer died, it was cheaper for me to replace the Gotech with a CB Performance crank trigger which works on my laptop.
The Pro X and all parts needed to make it work is for sale if you want it (except for 1 seal and a relay or two).

If you using the VW long suppressor Plug caps, and your bus and engine are well earthed, you should not get interference.

Unless you are using the lowest short wave radio which are not made anymore.

Think you have a bad earth on radio, or engine to gearbox or loose wire in your distributor, if you still have one.

"Whine" sound is interference from alternator. Can be heard on sources other than radio as well. (Cd, etc). If that is problem, an inductor-filter in series with power wire to radio may help.
Spark plug interference sounds different, more like a continuous series of fast clicks, picked up by the radio receiver. Both noises increases with rpm.

I'm going to buy a inline voltage surpressor and try that first.

I have several radio/cd units which work with no interference at all. The only time I ever had interference was when I bought a cheap branded radio. When I removed it and installed a decent quality unit, problem was gone.

I remember when I had built my first Sound Quality Competition Beetle in the 90's, using a then top of the range JVC unit which fed a Parametric EQ, active crossovers, Rockford Fosgate Amps and Boston Accoustics speakers, it cost a fair bit, and I won my class at the IASCA SA Championships first time out.. And it had a click\buzz whent he engine ran which I struggled to clean up.
Same goes for my 80's beetles with Pioneer and Alpine installations, all of them top of the range, all of them buzzed.

The standard type 1 VW motor is not electrically friendly and you always struggle to get a clean signal when the motor is running. Perhaps it's louder than normal when you have an amplified Hi Fi system in them.
But no worries, I'll sort it out soon enough. Just wanted to hear constructive input from other audiophiles on the forum.
