Agree with all.....recently had my ol Baja motor redone by a very good engineering firm in PTA and let me tell you...if it cost R3500--00 to do I could have had all my VW's engines overhauled all at once for the price I paid for the one motor.
Baja runs better than ever....only cost me an arm...ha ha!!!
Also met this lady Elsebe Rademeyer, quite a piece of work and the best is her husband is a pastor, he even has his own little company called dial a pastor. Go on fb and search dial a pastor.
He does counseling as well if you are traumatized by his wife call him.....
Here's another regular gumtree advertiser touting impossibly cheap "reconditioned engines":
I once emailed him and asked how he could recon an engine for less than the machining costs, and he replied that he gets a better price for bulk machining. He didn't mention what new parts he uses or what they cost ...

In 2015 went to buy an engine for Beetle from Beetle Conection in Roseville, Pretoria.
That engine ran fairly well until the flywheel came adrift.
I returned to Beetle Connection for a second engine.
When I went to fetch the car the engine was so weak that it was not able to move the car.
After a short while I wanted to fetch my car but for 18 months was not able to get hold of Beetle Connection.
The SAPS found my car at the Pastor next door.
