I would have REALLY liked a set of 356 gauges, but at R4200-00 for a repro china (keep in cool place) rubbish. I had a lead on a nos set off a 356C, but at R15 000, I said screw that.
I still have to strip and clean this set, but at the moment, it's getting all of the small bits on and I can worry later about making all of the stuff look good.

Update 22-10-2007
Quick thinking got me a gem of a 1500 single port this weekend from Rui.
Even though the motor was dirty and was pissing oil from the oil cooler, it seems to be in very good condition.
I bought this as a fill in while my 2.0 is being built so that I can test a few things on the car as well as being able to drive it around as it's due at my friend willen to do the fibreglass work on the dash, body and a few other smaller things.
Taking an engine out of a sedan's trunk is a bit of a mission on your own, trusty wheelbarrow came in handy.

Plans for this motor are.
- Complete strip and oil seal overhaul
- Complete service + addition of electronic ignition
- Custom exhaust that I'm going to build
- Repaint all engine tin + intake manifold
- Overhaul the carb
- Fit new coil, plug leads etc.
DRIVE IT!!!!!!
I love the 1500SP and I easily consider it to be the best AC motor that VW ever built.
I finally got to cut the hardboard for my door panels and I should hopefully look at sorting out the bugs that I still have by next weekend.
Stay tuned.
