Tony, did you need to have your cars checked out by mechanic etc?
No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

@TonyZ: are there any mileage or other restrictions to have classics comprehensively insured for such low prices? Who is the underwriter?

No inspection, but I do know the Chris personally, so it might be different for you.
I think its 8000km per year, personal/private use only. Only nominated drivers.
Best option is to phone Chris and speak to him personally. He does household too, I have everything covered through him.

Vehicle: Kombi's.
Insurer: Sean Webb savings account
Value: Bank balance
Premium: R250 each per month
Very seldom needed to claim, money available immediately and no paperwork.
Instead of giving away 90% of my premiums and get a whole whopping 10% back for never claiming, I on the other hand have 100% percent of it.

My mind works a little different - I dont insure my cars to look after my cars if I do damage to them. Its the R2mil mercedes that I am insuring, should I bump it properly...
R4500 per year for all my 5 VWs... bump a nice car and cause 100k damage (easy to do today) and thats 22years worth of repayments by your method.

Re: Are your cars insured and where?
Insurance related only to the driver/owner's liability... shoud he/she drive into someone's R2million Merc. What is available?
Cars generally dont cause accidents while they sit somewhere on their own. Bad driving/lack of maintenace by the driver/owner does.
As an example, someone obviously cant drive all his cars at the same time. The individual person's risk profile to the insurer would be the same if he has 1 car or a collection of 10 cars.
Then optionally the owner might choose to insure his cars against theft or whatever?

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
