My recently acquired Karmann Ghia lowlight has Vin: 1764821, which according to my research was produced after August 1957 and issued a 1958 Vin number.
My engine number is O479816 which as far as I can establish is a 1500cc S 54hp engine belonging to a Type 34 Karmann Ghia produced in Feb 1964.
My body number is 27566
Can anyone please confirm or correct me on the aforementioned.
Much appreciated

VIN looks like it dates to December 1957. Engine number dates to February 1964 as you say. Is it still the flat type3 configuration, or has it been converted to upright fan?

Looks like Beetle configuration, see attached pic. Have you got a picture of what it is supposed to look like on this car?fig wrote: Wed Aug 01, 2018 10:23 am VIN looks like it dates to December 1957. Engine number dates to February 1964 as you say. Great find!
Fig is correct, it looks like the car was manufactured in December 1957.
Your car should have a 36HP type 1 (not type 3) engine.
When you lift the engine lid, this is what you should see.
