Window outer scraper
Was looking for the outer window scrapers on a '60 Beetle.
Do they only come with the trim? My trim is still in very good shape and it seems a waste to have to buy that as a unit.
Advice is much appreciated.

Re: Window outer scraper
Yes, ProAuto Rubber should have them. You have to unrivet the old rubber and rivet the new one in place. Re-use your old clips.

Re: Window outer scraper
Thanks guys,
having heard a lot of stories about ProAuto Rubber parts has anyone got experience with the scrapers?
I see Volksspares is selling them at over 1k each.
Will checkout the Pro Auto ones this afternoon.
They are currently R350.- a pair which is a inner and outer scraper from what I understood.

Re: Window outer scraper
Their scrapers are fine, given the price. The fit will depend on your workmanship. Like I mentioned before, re-use your old clips as the new ones are flimsy.

Re: Window outer scraper
So I bought the outer scraper and it comes per meter. It must be made to fit but I think it is doable.
I also bought the inner scraper which was nicely shaped and had all the clips and felt, alas when I got home and tried it the clips are not spaced correctly. To top it one cannot just remove the clips and reposition them they are part of the molding it seems.
Will take them back.
I also bought the thin window channel from Volksspares and it apparently fits all Beetles from '54 onwards but I don't see that. I tried fitting the window in it without the strip being in its metal channel and it is a near impossible fit. Now it must still fit inside the channel itself? Am I missing something?
I actually did not try Rui Terry.

Re: Window outer scraper
Alan, rather try Terry's suggestion of using a shaped inner scraper for the outside of the opposite side (hope this makes sense). The "per meter" option doesn't work 100%. Regarding the clips - remove the clips that came with the scraper and shelve them. Make new holes to align with your door and re-use your old clips.

Re: Window outer scraper
I'M GOING TO CHUCK IN MY 2C WORTH.
A FRIEND OF MINE USED THE PRO AUTO RUBBER (PER METER OPTION) ON HIS BAY WINDOW BUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE COULDN'T GET HIS HANDS ON ANY OTHERS, AND THEY WORKED A CHARM.
YOU CAN CUT THEM TO FIT PERFECTLY AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CLIPS ALIGNING AS YOU CAN JUST PUT THEM ON USING CONTACT ADHESIVE. VOILA!

Re: Window outer scraper
Thanks MARK, I might try the glue option for an inner scraper that came out due to crappy clips. I just don't feel like taking the whole door apart (again) to put in the scraper.
