Re: Oil recommendation
Just asking.
Wont a 15w50 be better as it is still thick at a higher temp? a 15w40 is the same as the 50 but should the temp go higher above the 40 'the 50 will take care of it'

Re: Oil recommendation
if your bearings are worn, then 20W50 will be better. But the W50 makes the engine run hotter - read viewtopic.php?f=4&t=38124&p=327274 for a brief explanation

Re: Oil recommendation
Your oil pump is a positive displacement pump. I.e it pumps a certain volume of liquid each rotation. Whether your oil is thick or thin it makes NO difference to the flow rate. Air cooled motors run hotter therefore oil is thinner which is a problem for bearing life. I would not use a thinner oil than 50 on a beetle motor. Especially in summer months.

Re: Oil recommendation
Thanks Tony.
What would you recommend for a single cylinder four stroke watercooled motorcycle without a oil cooler?

Re: Oil recommendation
If water cooled, then normal high performance castrol will be fine.

Re: Oil recommendation
For motorbikes you need to get motorbike specific oil as you’re running a wet clutch. Else you might struggle to change gears. Motul or Belray 4T oil
