I suppose its personal opinion... I love the look. I would lower the rear and build a decent engine with dual exiting exhaust pipes that are LOUD. Then either go up to 17's or put on classic style rims with whitewalls

Got your PM
Now that you mention the wood again that convirms it is the same car I talked about erlier
Chris who Semi cut the car has a Imagination of note He often Sliced and Diced cars for guys who had no knowledge on how to do it as was the case with that one that car was cut roundabout 1985
The owner gave Chris a pic and ask him to mod it for him as the pic from VW Trends mag or so
So you can imagine what has gone on with the car for the past 22 yrs
But no fear
This is some Ideas what can be done
I still got my other cabrio for sale or to swop

To make the frame is not to dificould and got a very good upholster to stitch the roof
just the soft top alone works out around R4500 but they DO NOT neak like any of the other aqfter market ones
I would like to see the car again in flech
PM me with your contact details

bugger i went to go see clive yestrday i saw a folding hard top he was making for a black beetle in his shop he told me that it works out cheaper then making a soft top. is it possible to make a fiberglass hardtop that you just take off & leave it in your garage for when you wanna go topless? is it a big job?
