Here is an idea I came up with a few years ago that has made my life a lot easier.
No more oil drips or messes when filling up with oil - works on gearboxes too

Very good idea Tony, it will be perfect for filling a gearbox
II take it that this is also, in some form or another, the method you use to pressurise Angerrr’s engine before starting it?

No Riaan, Ive got a dedicated pre-lube pump for that, permanently mounted in the car. Push button, 10 seconds later I have 1 bar pressure - I do this everytime I start the engine.

Nice one Tony, better then drowning the engine with oil and having to clean it up again.
Thank you

Re: Easy way to fill your engine or gearbox without making a mess
Not a bad idea that.
Refilling gearboxes and engines in the VW’s is really a disaster, even the later water cooled have some stupid side angled neck that just encourages oil to overflow everywhere. I really wonder where that rubbish idea came from.
I discovered these in the last while and they have made my life so much easier.

Not entirely sure what the exact name is, but I have been scouting for them in second hand stores.
They hold about 15l each and each cycle of the hand pump is about 1 pint. I keep different oils in each such as ATF, Gear oil, engine oil etc. It’s makes filling any application so easily and it’s also easy to tap from 200l oil drums and use these smaller pumps to carry to cars.

Re: Easy way to fill your engine or gearbox without making a mess
In Afrikaans it is called a Draaikan. Many service stations used them and they are quite accurate like this model is 7 turns, the other model 5 turns etc to fill up the gearbox or diff.
