Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
Week 29 of build
So the drive to PE was great fun, even without windscreen,
She drove fantastic and so smooth.
Need to reduce tyre pressure a bit as they are a bit hard.
She should be ready to come back this week but will let you know.

The new thing is to keep your mouth open, so you do not get the bugs in your teeth, but you swallow them......

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
So today I donned my safety glasses and hoody, and jumped into the Fastback, and off we went to PE.
Th emission is to collect the Hahn from the upholsterer, and to leave the Fastback there to do miner repair to the head liner.
"Whats wrong with the head liner..??" I hear you all shout out of harmony.....
Well when we did it originally we used very thin roof wires and at high speed the air bellows the liner onto your head.
So we are going to fit stiffer spring wire to hold the liner up and in place, as well as fitting air vents in it should we have air build up under the liner.
Thats what happens when you do not fit perforated head liner.
BUT ... the Hahn is back and the assembly can start...
Till then

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
Week 31 of build
As this was one of the 1st hand built Hah'n's. we are now having to make , adjust, modify all parts to make them fit properly.
Yes they where fitted to the car, but not matched , just put on to get the concept.
To the point where the Smits speedo was never conneted,
Spent this week in fitting the radio, and speakers, the side panels inside the car, also making the plexiglass light covers.
Interior light had to be made, and the roof vents fitted.
The sun visors also had to be adjusted and fitted, as well as the rear view mirror.
Still trying to find the correct door rubbers, and will be testing the fitment of the windows,
as I am not sure the rubber which looks right will actually work in the Hahn.
The steering wheel will have to come off again, so we can rework it and renew it so it works with the car.
The speedo is a gearbox feed unit and we can not get it to read correct from the front wheel, so we have ordered a new GPS speedo.
May have to change the face to match the other gauges, when I do the clock,
as that also needs to be changed to white face and mating font numbers.
The rear bumperletts will have to be reworked to fit properly, as they never fitted right, even on all the other Hahn's.
Well the list is still long, but we are ticking them of one at a time.

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
Week 32 of build.
As we had to make light covers for the Hahn, we could not buy them, so we made a plan.
We bought a sheet of Plexiglass. 3mm

Then we had to make a fiberglass mould with the correct shape...and that will take high heat without deforming.

The plexiglass was cut to a bit bigger then the mould, and placed into Gas oven to the temperature of 165 Deg C
Once on temp. we draped it over the mould and closed the other half of the mould , forming the Plexiglass in the form.
This was then trimmed and fitted... and trimmed and fitted.. and trimmed and fitted.. ( you get the picture) till we where all happy.

Then we had to mask it and cover it with plastic for the painting process.

Stripping the masking off to see if we have a usable lens cover....

Now all we need to do is drill holes as well as screw it down without creaking it...
Also made the fog /spot light covers the same way.

Where do they fit, you ask, well let me show you

HaHaHa .. you did not think I will show you the new painted Hanh did you ..???
So that is it so far, but will be building a factory out of town for the next few weeks, and will not build the Hahn...
And Yes... we all 3 are going... you do not think I trust the other two on their own do you

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
incredible work Herman.
I hate working with fibreglass, and thus, I'm pretty bad at it. You however, appear to be a pro

Re: Retrovan's Hahn SP - Project
So we three are back from our factory build, and setting some time into the Hahn...
Had a family dinner and invited the kids, (read - Laborers)
Fitted the front windscreen as well as the back screen.
Then went about fitting the back side glass, and started on the door winders and glass fitment
What a struggle, as this is one of the 1st builds, not much is 100% right.
As the doors have no lock buttons and only the driver door has a lock without key, I am fitting remote door locking and alarm system.
So these have to go in 1st.
Got the drivers door window in but must still fit the door card once the glass sealer in the glass mount had dried.
Mid way with the passenger side door at this time
But ice cold weather has chased us in-house.
Till next update.....
