And the bits of wire that come off every few minutes are able to go straight through an overall and embed themselves in your flesh. Ask me how I know ... :D

The wire wheel that I had bought is too soft to take off rust and barely scratches the paint

Apparently, 3M make a wire wheel or similar that removes paint and rust very easily, goes for around R120-00 per wheel

Well, 40 grit sandpaper removes everything very easily!!

The only problem now is getting rid of the soundproofing that VW stuck to the pan, I can get large pieces to chunk off, but now there are numerous smaller pieces that are stuck to the ribs :?

Trying to figure out the best way to get them off :x

Don't have a heat gun or wire brush sadly

hhhmmm....similar issue with mine! Perhaps try contact glue remover. It worked like a charm on mine, you just have to work quickly. I pull off about 5l of contact glue off my pan! It wont damage the paint either!!

I picked out small 'fly-off' pieces of wire out of my skin with pliers!!!!!

Ok, maybe not pliers, but they had to be pulled out

Zero axe, i know that feeling, i my self do not like thos wire brushes,

Sorry guys , i will have to do this in afrikaans, my engels in metalurgie is nie goed nie
have nothing on the cards now, but have a red beach buggy in sight that I want

*don't use a steel brush to clean a steel surface. The steel ions in the brush reacts with the ions in the surface, and that speeds up the forming of rust.Rather use a copper brush on a steel surface*

builders warehouse sell contact glue remover. I actually think its made by Genkem. i used about 2 bottles on my pan. Just try and work with it when its cool. I cant promise anything, but it might be worth a shot. +- R40 a bottle.
