Exactly how much power can it handle before a side plate stiffener,superdiff etc are needed?

Any gearbox is only so strong as strong as it's weakest part in it, he he he he
have nothing on the cards now, but have a red beach buggy in sight that I want

the general consensus is 150hp, as long as its driven nicely

i've heard 150hp..... but the thing to avoid is dropping the clutch... otherwise acellerate as hard as you like once moving...

Yes, I know of guys who used to race Rover V8-engined Beetles on stock trannies in the 1970s in Zim.

But I've also heard of people breaking the transmission case by dropping the clutch hard with a stock 1500.

wheel hop also comes into play as does proper bracing of the box to prevent it moving.

there is a gearbox brace that you can make at home if you can weld and use a ruler and a drill. its made out of square tubing and bolts onto the forks and then up under the dogbox and then another brace is bolted inside the car where it comes threw the floor and onto the wheel arcs. This strengthens the gearbox on the forks and stops the twisting motion induced by torque of the engine. It's cheap, it work really well and you can do it in one afternoon..... Well for MTM maybe two!
