any engine with an 84mm stroke should have counterweights. If you buy a R4500 crank without counterweights, you need a kick in the ....

thats the timing gear that drives the dizzy....

By a process of elimination, I am sure you'll eventually get there, but then you have to tell me whats so different / special about it

O comeon Tony, this is teh first time in 20 years that i see a open flat 4 engine of VW, so you need to be a bit more specific, even if it is just for me

The VW doesnt really need its crank knife edged like a V8. The V8 has the crank sitting near to the oil level, so knife edging helps when the webs hit the oil... the VW has the cam just above the oil level.

Suzie, if this is the first time in 20years you are looking at an open VW flat 4.... then I seriously doubt that you will get it.

My money is on someone who rebuilds these engines regularly....
