Hi, replaced my cable the other day with one from Midas. (1963 beetle)New sachs clutch kit with to bearing etc. Greased up the new cable and it worked well for a few months. It seems to have started to fray/break now as I cannot get the car in gear. The new cable looked a bit "made in china" Where do you guys get yours and what should I look for? These cables arent supposed to break so easily! The operation of the mechanism was very smooth and there doesnt seem to be any obstructions in the cable guide tube.
more often than not it frays at the back where the wingnut adjuster is because it bends on a sharp corner there...... what worked for me? stiff piece of plastic tubing taped around that area so it spreads the "bending forces" over a bigger area of cable.... clutch hasn't broken since...

That sounds like a great tip. Do you think with the new clutch there is obviously more strain on the cable? There is no shuddering or slippage and the sachs kit really seemed a good quality. I was very lucky to still get one as I still run the 6 volt flywheel and starter! Will definitely check where it broke. My previous one broke somewhere in the middle although it lasted ages with the old clutch. That cable was noticeably thicker than the one I got from Midas
