I once used a single weber side draft and a t2 on my fastback didnt feel fast but went the whole clock
problems DetonationDetonationDetonationDetonation etc
The heat was so bad that i could feel it inside the cabin
If i were to do it again Fuel injection, intercooler and a huge oil cooler.

here is a question to you guys asking about the turbos.... have you actually driven a properly prepared N/A beetle??? Not a stock bug. But rather a 1600 in the 100hp region or a 130hp 1915cc?
I get the impression that you guys are looking for quick power by following the advice of the speed and sound magazine... Strap a turbo on, there isnt much you can do to the engine... Well guys, I have news for you, the bug was completely under powered and over designed, thats why they work so well 40 years down the road. Have you bothered to do any form of head porting? Cam change? Do you realise that a set of stock valves can hit the 100hp mark if the ports are done right and you have the rest done "nicely". Not with the tricks needed for the 150hp+ area, just nicely.
Think about it

I bought mine at MOTOR BOOKS a vew years ago and it was worth it cauze I borrowed by TURBO MANIA book to some arshole who never returned itRabid_ant wrote:Best reference on the subject is a book called "Maximum boost" written by Corky Bell
Answer on the one q already 2 drla`s Dave Ingle who`s beetle was featured in one car magasine changed to 2 drla`s and turbo
And that is why as IMPI said detonation it is not a highway croozer only robot racer when the motor is still in a fair temp
And that is also the reason on my current beetle I went one step further and built Charge cooler
and a huge power in crease coz you can bring the air temp down lower than a inter cooler
