Who remembers E. Terblance from Steytlerville?

Post by Pine »

AFAIK he used to write hundreds of VW-related letters to the CAR magazine, and they were all published in the 'letters' column, like this one below. Guess he would have really enjoyed this Forum today. Did anyone perhaps know him personally?

PS No Vader not THAT E. Terblance...

From what I have read in some of the old CAR magazines that I have,John Lemon, famed Beetle historian, apparently bought Mr T's Oval a few years ago. There was a small inset in CAR magazine about 7 years ago

Moral of the story....... dont drive into a sharp kerb on a narrow concrete road with rocks next to it at speed ..... make an accident and then try to blame the car....

A lot of people complained about the 411 when it was introduced in 1969 - the famous saying was '4 Doors, 11 years too late!'

Idiots probably never drove a nice Type 3 - All that car needed was a Type 4 engine from the factory and it would have been the ultimate aircooled

Uhm... not quite

With your Type 3 - can you say

- Macpherson front suspension?
- Coil springs all round?
- Front disk brakes?
- Hydraulic clutch?
- Dual stage crossover braking system?
- Monocoque bodyshell?
- Crumple zones?
- D-Jetronic fuel injection?
- 3-Speed automatic?

....OH yes, and FOUR DOORS??? :hangloose:

With your Type 3 - can you say

- Macpherson front suspension? Is that really necessary? Torsion bars ride nicely
- Coil springs all round? Not necessary for a smooth ride
- Front disk brakes? All Type 3s built after 1966 had disks
- Hydraulic clutch? WHY??! What's wrong with a cable
- Dual stage crossover braking system? What is that? All you need is dual circuit, no?
- Monocoque bodyshell? What?? Like a Golf??
- Crumple zones? In a Type 3 you are the crumple zone
- D-Jetronic fuel injection? Yes Type 3s had EFI from 67 on overseas
- 3-Speed automatic? Type 3s had auto

....OH yes, and FOUR DOORS??? :hangloose:
