Jetting My Dellortos
hey guys, ok here's one for the experienced.
Last year I installed a pair of DRLA 38s on my stock 1600tp. I checked the jetting according to some articles from "aircooled.net", but the car has never run perfectly. Backfiring on deceleration and not nearly having as much power as I expected. In fact I haven't noticed much of a difference from the way it is now and the stock carb.
SO, I have researched more and have found another article on the web, and I have deduced that I am running rich. This is backed up by the fact that the car is backfiring on deceleration and a smell of petrol from the exhaust.
Now for the questions.
a) Can anyone give me the jet setting for this setup so that I can verify my latest research?
b) Where can I get jets?
Also in connection with this. I am running the standard SVDA dizzy. I am concerned with the fact that on the original setup the dizzy is getting advanced on every piston induction stroke. And now only on one.
c) 1. Is this ok, or should I get the Bosch dizzy with no vacuum advance?
2. Or should I I fill my trunk with vacuum piping and connect the SVDA to all cylinders?

DRLA's 36 are great carbs, no 38's ever made. If you can't notice any improvement over the stock carb then there is something horribly wrong. One of the biggest problem is that every man and his dog has probably messed with those carbs, miss matched jets reamed them, and the like. If they have the standard 1500 Alfa jets then the should run fine. If I remember the Alfa had 2 setups
30 chokes, 122 main, 180 air and a 55 idle the emulsion I can't remember,
and 28 chokes, 112 main, 180 air and 52 idle
I have run on a slightly modded 1641 30 choke, main jet 125 a 180 air with 55 idle, twin carbs most of the time tend to run a little rich but I prefer a litle rich than a little lean on a aircooled motor.
On my hot 1835 with big valve heads, cam, exhaust 32 chokes, 135 main, 180 air, 60 idle, emulsion 9164.2, 33 pump jet, made a shit load of diff on the previously mentioned carb combo.
If it is backfiring out of the exhaust you need to make sure that the mixture screws have been turned out at least 3 full turns max 5 or else the idle jet is too small but more important the carbs need to be ballanced (synced) if they are not then whatever jet changes you make will only complicate things more. make sure the bypass screws are closed, those shits have driven me mad in the past and cause more headakes than what the resolve.
I have used the stock dizzy before but prefer the WBX electronic one with the advance connected with a anti pulse valve (one way valve) the Alfas have them too, as do TRD's. The 009 should work seen it used many times but I have no experience with it.
For Jets, Duke @ DG auto Tech 011 902 8478 but expect to pay they are not cheap.
I know of another dude in PE for jets but don't have his details at the moment, let me know how it goes.
