Just prior to selling my 71 bug with twin Solex 34's I was getting about 12km's per L mostly open road.

I was getting about 8.4liters/100km or 11.9km/liter on my 1600 TP with a 1800 Golf carb.
About 70% of that was open road but then again the N1 isn't exactly open road between PTA and JHB during rush hour.

Fuel consumption... who cares :) . On my red bug, before stripping the engine I got roughly 10km/l when driving it nicely. But that rarely happened. :)

The downside is Price........

Nice set of carbs goes for about R3500.

EFI done properly with mapping and tuning is about double that AT LEAST.

True, but the pros outweigh all of the cons...

My view on the subject...

I'm old-school, I like the idea of, for example, an upped Beetle engine in a - wait for it - Beetle.

Twin carbs are part of dub's history, and it's classic.

Let's not forget the lovely growl you get from them.

...but that's me, and I respect that angle. :)

bigtime.

daily driveability, not having to constantly adjust the carbs, fuel consumption those are just a few.

I'm a big fan of the GermanLook movement, so EFI is just something that I always wanted to do...

In my case, I'm going to use some old VW EFI manifolds with modern injectors and management..

Should be interesting...

The downside to efi is price... a good set of throttles, fuel pump pipes, ecu etc will probably set you back over R10k

I'm currently looking at making a intake manifold where you can use your carb as a throttle body and a single injector. This should bring costs down for a stockish engine.
