So Beetles don't count unless they're splits, ovals, SPs or Supers? What about all the other Bugs?

Here's the full list of my VWs:
1957 Kombi (Uitenhage assembled)
1959 single cab (originally supplied in primer)
1961 panelvan (original signwriting "Oxford Radio")
1963 Dormobile (the only Martin Walter Dormobile I've seen in SA)
1963 Beetle
1967 double cab
1975 Fleetline panel (daily driver)
1975 Fleetline panel (the wife's)
1975 Fleetline Kombi

PS: It's spelt Schwimmwagen, and I'm almost certain there are none in SA.

thanks for the tip.... i saw a kubel drive past me in voortrekker road the other day though.... first one i saw... or was it a Thing type 181? cant remember

Werner Alker has a real WW2 K?bel, the only one I've seen or heard of in SA. Unfortunately only about 5% of its bodywork is original.

A lot of people call Type 181s K?bels.

I like the Schwimmwagen in the bottom pic! That's another vehicle I'd love to recreate one day when space, funds and metalworking skills permit it. Right after my WW2-vintage Beetle van, old-school Meyers Manx and '70s Autovilla projects (all of which exist only in thought form at the moment...)

Theres a club? in cape town who have a stand at the panorama wheel show every year with one of these vehciles and the are all decked out in full military kit.

...keep in Mind that there are a few mod'd Type 181s doing the rounds in Cape Town after a movie company used them as props...

...they built up to resemble K?bels.

I stand to be corrected here but the 181 is known in the States as a Thing (apparently where the name originated).

The top 3 pic are kubelwagens also known as Trekkers.

Yes...and The States is the only country who ever produced and sold 181s.

'Thing' is it's tag, but Type 181 is the official term.

I have not heard the term "Trekkers" before.
