Front wheel adaptors
Where does one get a pair of GOOD 4x100pcd to wide 5 adaptors? we have 14 inch rostyles which we would like to keep ,on drums -(all brand new components) and it stops nicely for a beetle.( I can hear all the fundi's cringing!!) We are wanting to build a long box and a trick engine and have already bought the front disc kit. the adaptors I have seen are stamped 4mm sheet matal and are really badly made and downright dangerous. Also want to maintain wheel to fender clearance using 175/80/14 conti's. Any ideas ?
Cheers

I dont like the stamped adaptor either, dont know about quality, but they look too poor for me.
If you dont come right, do a quick drawing and take it to a machine shop, they can do them pretty quickly and easily... have fun

I used those stamped steel things and all I can say is DON'T!
The threads stripped very quickly. I had a spare drum and a rim, took it to a machine shop and told them to make up four adaptors. The result was beefy steel components I would trust to stay in one piece when I really need them to.

I have seen a lot of crappy adaptors but the worst I saw was on a Ghia using an inverted Golf 1 disk drilled for the wide 5 using one or other disk setup, not golf. If you have ever seen how thin the flange of a golf 1 disk is you will know why I say it is a crappy adaptor.

I had them made from mild steel. The machine shop cut 40mm thick pieces-laser cut, then machined them down to the correct profile. Drilled and tapped them. I painted them later, good primer and 4-5 coats of black. Total cost was +-R 300 a piece.
They were considerably heavier than the pressed steel ones.

Hi Thumper,
yes I will be fitting 100 pcd x 4 stud (discs) on the front axle and have std drums on the back. We have wide 5 14 inch rostyles and rather like the look of them. We like a bit of authenticity. Other than empis and the eagle alloys I havent found a set of mags that I like on the bug. Empis and eagles are not available in 100x4 pcd anyway.Had a look at locally made wheels as well . Dont like the only FWD drive offsets available anyway. I also realise that if I cant get spacers that will still allow me to have the fender clearance reqd for the rosstyles, I may have to bite the bullet and settle for mags, and just live with the car looking like a TSW or MALAS special offers display dummy.
Thanks for the input so far, Guy's
Regards

A good machining shop will still be able to make it for you. If possible give them the rim and a disc. That way the clearance can be sorted too.
