Another WTF is that noise problem

Post by PhantomPhondler »

Has anyone ever had the same problem? When I turn a corner, or when driving over a bumpy road a noise starts. It sounds as if the back brakes hook (a deep booooooaaammmmmmm sound or uhmmmmm). (plus the car does slow down). However I could not find anything. I then took my car to Rad Beetles up the road from my work, and they also could not find anything.

They told me the only way to find out if it is the brakes or if it is something else is to put drums back on (i got disks conversion front and back), which I think is another way of saying "i dunno what it is, so just do this".

help anyone?

How is your handbrake cable free play? what happens is the suspension moves up and down and than there is not enouht free play on the hand brake cable and then it starts to aply the brakes by it self

i will try that, i will make loosen the hand brake cable and see what happens, however I am not sure if this is the case as my handbrake cable was loose (so loose it did not even work) and the noise was still there. but i shall try.

i know on the Mazda 323 EGI 160i with disc brake in the back it was a commen thing to make a noise when you go around a sharp bend , and the only way to solve that was by skimming the disc and a new set of pads, even if the old pads had more than 50% life left on them, and then i also now if there is not slack on the cable mechanism it starts bracking

well skimming the brake and a new pad might then have to be done. where can I get an expert opinion i.e. someone look at it? any place? the brakes and pads are quite new, however i do punish them when i drive.

i got back disks and calipers from a golf, the calipers are new (but are not the greatest, i bought them from volkspares, the front ones are second hand and seem better quality)

thnks 4 info suz

pleasure PP.

Un hook your brake cable at the rear of the caliper and also what you can check is if the caliper releases properly, if not it will give you that noise around corners,
