WBO2 tuning kits
WBO2 tuning kits
Who uses a wideband O2 sensor kit for tuning?
I've been looking at the Innovate LM-1 wideband O2 tuning kit and from what I can see it would pay itself off very quickly if I used it to tune my own car(s). About R2000 in the USA - not sure what they cost here or where to get them.
I've never had a car dyno tuned but I should imagine it's quite pricey.

Re: WBO2 tuning kits
I've got one of those cheapy CB performance A/F monitors. And one more in the cupboard if anyone's interested.
Its not accurate enough for tuning but it will give a pretty good indiacation as to whether or not you have got things right

Re: WBO2 tuning kits
Yeah the Innovate LM-1 seems to be quite popular as well as the Zeitronix ZT-2.
I was just curious if anyone around "these parts" (as in the forum members) uses this type of tuning tool.
Does everyone just take their cars to dyno tuners or go by the exhaust smell?
Dyno tuning may give one slightly better power and you also get to know what the power output at the wheels is but otherwise it's not that much better.

Is that a wideband O2 sensor? As far as I know the wideband sensors are always 5 wire.Tony Z wrote:I've got one of those cheapy CB performance A/F monitors. And one more in the cupboard if anyone's interested.

I know Gotech sell the Bosch wideband O2 sensors for about R1400.

Re: WBO2 tuning kits
Not to sure what type it is what Arthur uses but know it is the Expensive one that they got
That must be very accurate and Qiuck other wise you will not get the right CO2 reading s from the Exhaust and on the rx`s if that is not right you will chip a corner ,side or apex seal faster as you can say 1

I know the EGT is critical so I guess if I start rich with the timing retarded and keep the EGT low I should have enough time to get it tuned before I break anything.

Re: WBO2 tuning kits
Remember I`m talking 6000RPM + and boosting there you need to have control over things esp when you are tuning
Dont think you are going to rev and boost the shit out of it bevore tuning it
The motors are much tuffer than the older n/a ones but any motor does not like lean and lots of timing

Re: WBO2 tuning kits
This one is a 3 wire kit. No idea about the specs... for me its for pure indication only, not tuning.Surge wrote:Is that a wideband O2 sensor? Us guys in Cape Town dont have the access to all the parts as easily as the guys in JHB. But we do have on thing you guys dont....
Windsor Motors and Jesse Hugget. No-one tunes carbs better than Jesse.

Cool I`d say also just for indication onlyTony Z wrote:we can talk about it when I get back. Not sure what I paid for itBugger wrote:I`ll Dids if the Price is right MNR T
Especially if a vacuum hose has come off or something else has gone wrong then you can see increase or decrease in EGT
And that can sefe you a motor
But if your job is Tuning cars you must spend the money for the right Equipment
This is one of the reasons why I will never leave my car at a tuner for him to tune my car with out me
You always ceep your eyes peeled on stuf they dont and tuning a AIR COOLED is no JOKE most of the well actuall 99% of them has never tuned an AIR COOLED and getting cool air in the fan is a majour problem so they cant run the car as long as they run W/C racers
But then also ceeping eyes on the co meter is a must so you can immediately see if the tuner knows what he is doing or not or is he going to break your car
I have heard so many times that the car broke on the DYNO and it is never the Tuners fault but who is in controll then of the mixture

Re: WBO2 tuning kits
Stay away from the narrow band stuff for tuning.
The innovate LM1 unit works like a charm, I've got one permanently mounted in my beetle. Another good thing to check is the EGT's or CHT.
