How do I remove the decklid pins?

Post by Merlin »

's up all?

The pins that hold the decklid to the mounts...htF do I get them out? :o

They're damn tight!

Try knock 'em to to the outside or to the center, and how exactly?

Thanks, N.

You mean the pins in the rear deck lid on/in the 'dog leg' support? They should slide out. But suppose that they could be rust-welded in place? I will try and remember to have a look tomorrow on my 1303....

I've got quick-release pins going in there, in case I want to take the lid off for shows or something. *shrugs shoulders*

Also have standoffs, but would prefer to NOT use them if possible...will see how the engine goes...

They're bludy tight, and I don't want to use too much force for fear of denting the lid.

Thanks Zero. :)

I cant offer advice because I cant check any from here.... but if they do slide out, you might want to try a small hammer and a pin punch - a punch with a small diameter nose thats about 3" long. Also try putting on some WD40 onto the pin to help loosen things up. Give it an hour to work in, then try knocking it out with the punch.

Will do Tony; thanks.

Using a punch, I presume, logically, I'm knocking the pins from the center out...

could go either way. Look at them carefully, usually you will be able to tell which way to drive them out. If not, make a few taps in each direction and listen and look. If it isnt moving, it will make a solid sound, if it is, it will sound slightly softer (soft as in volume and less solid)

Well, I tried the oil/tap trick earlier, and she's stuck solid.

Will have to make some time to unbolt the entire setup and have another go on the ground.

What a pita.

Thanks, N.
