What sealer do you use on a Type1 case if you spit it open? (dont tell me the silicone type - i hate that stuff) and what is the torque settings on the nut and bolts that holds the case together, and what is the seqeunce to tighten them?
have nothing on the cards now, but have a red beach buggy in sight that I want

I have used hylomar in the past with great success. My current engine was sealed with red-devil (I hope I dont have to split that case in a hurry).
For the specs, buy the Heynes manual. Its worth its weight in gold

Re: Sealer for splitcase?
I always use Red Hermatite the 2.1 of my mom ran 250k no leaks and even on the head to barrel
and it is oil based
and does not really go rock solid

I've always used Red Hermatite and never had any problems with it.
The engine always ends up leaking at other points like the oil cooler seals, crankshaft seal, etc.

Re: Sealer for splitcase?
I use Curil K2 for the halves
And Loctite 518 for the oilpump and cam plug
SILICONE DOES NOT FLATTEN OUT COMPLETELY AND REDUCES BEARING CRUSH I ONLY USE IT TO SEAL EXHAUSTS
