Re: 59 Ghia
I must say I am happy with the result so far. There are a few things that have to be atended to. They didn't mask the tyres and the wire harness in the engine bay.
They didn't close the gearbox housing either
Everything has overspray! The battery tray has a plate pop riveted over the metal (which was there orig.) But i'm sure it will be sorted out. Can't wait for the body to come home. It's been nearly 6 months

you must have been smiling all the way. Congrats on getting her/him on the road. He/her is definately not a 59 though...lowlights only went up to 57...maybe she/he was only registered in 59 due to export but was definately produced before then. My favourite aircooled of all time and i`m really happy to see that you are taking time and money to save one more in S.A.

Re: 59 Ghia
I went to visit her on saturday and to my surprise she had her first coat of bamboo paint. I didn't expect it so I dont have pic's but the wheels were covered as well as the gearbox. The wire harness was also removed from the engine bay and the battery tray section repaired. (Maybe someone is watching this thread) I'm very happy so far. Will post some pic's later.
I know......my wife limits me to one project/car at a time!Looking good. I also want a GhiaBut the wife will kill me if I bring home another car.

Re: 59 Ghia
You can clean the harness with a rag soaked in thinners or turpentine. Wear rubber gloves, and pull the harness through the rag that is in your fist. The harness comes out like new, and the coloured wires are also clearly visible

Thanks Pine, you failed to mention not to do it in the loungePine wrote:You can clean the harness with a rag soaked in thinners or turpentine. P.S. Have you ever notice how good a dishwasher can clean parts

Re: 59 Ghia
I built a Tamiya Karmann Ghia like that in 2002. Didn't paint it and left it in the 'as supplied' white plastic. After I polished up the plastic, it looked like a Pearl white car
