MY BUG IS BUGGING ME :-(

Post by virek »

Guys please help,

My bug motor has been completely rebulit.

Got her started up yesterday, but after 20min or so of idling - she just dies off  getting quiet annoyed now as I spent alot on the rebuild :x

What could be wrong?

The fuel filter never seems to have fuel in it while the car is idling :?: AC Pump faulty :?:

Maybe I need a new carb :?:

Also there is a cover missing from the back of the fan - my mech says its important for cooling as its something that sucks cool air :?

I just dont know

Please help

Thanks

what cover is missing?

With your engine running.... Can the engine start again? Does it run again then die another 20min later? Can it run with you playing with the throttle, but not idle? Do you have the elctric choke connected?

Thanks for the reply.

From cold start it starts on turn - idles for 20min or so then slowly dies - even when u play with the throttle it still eventually switch's off even on full throttle. She then refuses to start again - The starter is now damaged trying to start her :( Then after she cools down - she starts on turn again and then 20min later slowly fades away :(

I have changed basically everything besides the fuel pump and carb.

The cover is the one next to the oil cooler.

Thanks

The only thing you Mention not being changed are the carb and Fuel pump Sometimes when the pumps get old the Diaphram stretches in side the pump and when hot it loses that last bit of pumping power and when cool then it pumps again

When it cools down and you start it again does it start imediately or only after a few revolutions of the motor is so next time take the carb top of and see if there is fuel in the float bowl or take the air filter off first and look down the carb and pull the acc lever 3 or 4 times and see if there is fuel being pumped when you do that

Let us know what you find

check if you have the electric choke attached. Thats a wire that runs to the right side of the carb onto a round disc that is held in place by a triangular cover. Remove that wire and try again. It could be shorting to ground when the engine warms up and killing the engine.

BTW, your starter shouldnt be run for more than 15 seconds and then left to cool for at least 45 seconds minimum

i had the same problem with my beach buggy a while ago! My solution was to drive it right! But unfortunately that didn't help, just got worst! a visit to your nearest carb centre and a couple of hundred rand should take care of the problem! just find some one reliable to do that,to many sharks out there!
good luck!

Thanks - I will be investing in a new carb ( 34 PICT ) from GW - Not going to spend R700 for a carb service only to realise I need another one
