Painting brake calipers...and powdercoating BIG things...

Post by Merlin »

I'm sure this topic has been covered, but Search turned up nothing...perhaps it was another forum...

If I paint my calipers, are they going to peel no matter what, or do I need to get them baked, or?

What's the story?...

...and: who has the facilities in Jo'burg to powdercoat an entire chassis?

Thanks, N.

You can buy a heat resistant (note not heat proof) paint kit from Autostyle, you can get a aerosol and a brush application I have used the aerosol one but the brake dust tends to make a sham of the work after a while. Powder coat a whole chassis is going to cost you big $$$, I paid R450 to a friend to do just 6 engine plates, I WILL NOT be doing more anytime in the near future, I get better results respraying them with a few coats of 2K.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

I'm sure I've heard of a company up here coating calipers as is done on Porsches, etc.

I'll have to have a look...

As for my chassis, I spent some serious dosh on 'coating last year, so I'm somewhat aware of the cost.

I'm intending to "competitionize" my bug to overseas standards, so I want to do it right...yes, it's a long-term project. :)

...first things first wrt 'coating, my suspension.

I'll take the body off later this year when it goes in for panelbeating...

Thanks, N.
