Re: My 181
When I registered the 181, the Model was unknown by the traffice deparment. They instisted they needed to know what model VW this was. I explained to the lady its known in Europe as a Type181 or in US as a Thing. The lady turned to the official behind her as said, Hy will sy kar as n vw ding register, hoe kan ek n ding register. Model was kept unknown.

Re: My 181
Our beach buggy with NPS reg. number also says "Ritsmotor" on the disc, and that in Port Shepstone where I think a lot of English is spoken!
My Thing says Beetle on the paperwork.

Re: My 181
Another 181 experience:
My 181 was rather rusty and even had a couple of holes in all the typical 181 areas.
People would walk up to it and start tapping on it, feel the edges of the fenders and then ask "Is this glass fibre?"
I just would just point and say: "The rust is real."
Cheers

Re: My 181
I hate it when people do that. I once saw a guy at a car show knocking a brand new Corvette and shouting 'Who knew this is made of fibreglass!' to all.
