When i bought the bus it only showed the fuel level from full up till around half, after that it just dropped to empty. When i removed the tank and got the sender out i saw that the tracks(wires) on the potentiometer had worn off, obviously causing a break in the circuit. Cant get it repaired anywhere in Windhoek. But im pretty sure i can get a good 2nd hand one. Not a very good design if you ask me. The '69 has that different type of sender, which works perfectly. Why didnt vw stick to that idea, not as acurate or what?

Those aftermarket senders might be an option, but you'll have to 'calibrate' it first, it envolves cutting and bending the rod with the float. I think the easiest will be to get an old tank, take the gauge console out of the bus and calibrate it outside with different quantities of water.

You can also ask IMPI, he has an old 2liter Bus in his backyard that he might strip for you. Dunno if the sender unit gives problems if it is dry for a while though..
