From http://www.356registry.org/tech/vwtoporsche.html
The license plate light assemblies for 1960-65 are the same as those used on the early Mercedes 190 and 220 series
Dunno which ones you're looking for, these directly below the license plate?

The 'S' and 'SE' models have a different setup at the rear (pic to the right)

This one is on EBay for $ 30, but it looks different:

I think the later unit is the style that I'm looking for. I think that I should start looking at older US cars.........

I saw these ones that would look good on a 60's 356, I want the larger unit though.

Nope I want the larger one that is mounted on the car itself.

Those ones that you posted came off the 60's 356c's I believe.

Take a Type 3 license plate housing and mount it upside down?

ah ha....fear not lads.....Mr G is almost 100% correct. the restorers extract reads......

"At coupe 100001, cabriolet 61701 and Speedster 83201 (tailight change) the license light went from shine-down to shine-up, under the license plate" based on my esteemed restorers manual, this was introduced at the same time "the tear drop tail-lights appeared, combining tail light, turn signal and brake light"

So there you have it :)

lol..................Well mine is going to be a mix match of a few years parts, I'm even thinking of keeping my pre-A beehive tail lights, but we'll see, if I don't like it, I can fill them and add the tear-drops.

Gary,
Some dash board question if you can help.
1) Did your friend Willem do your dash board if so will he do a 911 dash and what will it cost more or less (the base is f/glass)
2)Is that real leather or vynel ----Where can one get real leather thin enough to work with a normal sewing machine.
3) Did you glued the leather onto the f/glass or did you do something else
cheers

Baron

1) Willem is working off my existing dash pad, but it's really not that serious a job to do, but he would the actual car as no doubt a dash pad would have to be made from poly first and then glassed, not an easy job, but do-able.
2) On the dash i'm putting leather, I bought 4 hides a while back that I wanted to use on this project, I have an interior guy who's using industrial equipment to do this. I have no idea where you can get thinner leather.
3) It's not done yet as Willem has to finish off the pad, but we're going to glue it on.

Cheers
