STARTERS

Post by lowlight »

Not in the beginning of a fancy meal.
1. Suzie talked about long starter and the short starter. What is the difference?
2. Old starter had a big terminal and small terminal, the other got 2 small terminals Why?

Lots of different starters for beetles.
6v cars had 2 main types vw and Bosch manufacture (the insides were completely different and parts dont interchange they had thicker shafts and the gear only mates with 6v flywheels
later 6v bosch starters looked the same as 12v starters and the bendix gears can be interchaged with some work easy for 6 to 12v conversions.
12 v starters is mainly different in that some had 2 brushes and others 4 brushes.(the 4 brush ons are stronger.
the solenoids sometimes had two spade terminals: one for the ignition switch and the other for use with a resistor coil (only fitted to watercooled cars which used the same solenoid.
411 cars used the same starters with the auto model having a self supporting starter (does not go into gearbox) and being very strong.
early 1600 buses had beetle starters but come the 2l the starter shaft was lengtened and doesnt fit beetles
Hope this helps
