Yes, the standard rims painted with white walls does look nice on a real classic.
On that topic - I've heard that the loose whitewall trims (just a white rubber ring that fits over the tyre) that is for sale is SA and fitted to a couple of Beetles tends to damage ("shave") the tyre and over time can cause the tyre to perrish - does anyone know if that is true?
I've got a set meant for my beetle but have not fitted them yet.

If you have a white wall set made by Velto, yes they sure do flap and cause rubbing on the tyre. Omega white wall are of premium quality and don't flap and "cut" the tyre. Any tyre will perish with time regardless if you have inserts or not.
