Battery Choices

Post by vader »

What are the various options for fitting a battery into a bug, Split, Notch, KG....blablabla

Maybe the rest of you can list your requirements and get the correct battery fitted.

Here are mine.....

MUST be able to crank the engine 20x  with out going flat.
Be able to run 4 6"x9", 1x12" sub, 1x4channel 120W/channel amp, 1x2channel 200W/channel amp.
DVD/CD player and 15"LCD screen... (To play StarWars on) :D
Electronic Ignition
Engine management system
Digital clocks.

So what would the specifications be?.... What Amps per hour, Voltage..... Battery type 621, 630, 728???? What make is the best, Willard, Sabat????

Forget the battery, you need an alternator. Genny wont cope with the sound system.
I got a 628 (I think) and it swings for ages. Just remember, the starter shouldnt be used for more than 15 seconds without leaving ti to rest and recover for 1 minute after

Ever considered your towing own generator on the back of a Venterkie?

But serious now, Jan from Centurion has some mean sound in his Baja, I am sure he'll be able to give you the right answers?

Your sound system isnt that big so dont worry about it. Pretty much any battery that fits will work. If you really not sure, get 2 and run them in parallel.

I got a 600WRMS sound system and the only problems I had was that it ate gennies in less than 5 min at full blast if the engine was running.
My drive lights are 110W and my brights are 130W. Those 2 on together is more power than the alternator can supply so then my genny light burns

I think you have nothing to worry about

seems to me you need good plug in charger for the vw to get afully charged battery every morning(time) you want to drive it. I actually consider something like that for the 6V jobbies that I dont drive that often.

Looks like his wheel track is out maybe he needs to put some spacers in the rear to bring the wheels out abit! The bug looks great but he dropped the ball with the tail lights....

I have seen some guys using two alternators on show bugs with huge sound systems. The one alternator is fitted on the std position and the second fitted on the side.

Those lights were bought at a dodgy "chooning" shop in Delft (a really kack part of CPT) in 1999. They "didnt" stock any hi-power lights but I asked nicely. Def not legal.
