T3 Gennie
On my Notch I have a 12 gennie.On top there are 3 stamps-DF,D+ and D-.
2 Questions;
1)Does the Gennie only work when the wires are attached to it from the regulator
2)What does the 3 mean, and how does the wires get connected to the gennie and the regulator.

Re: T3 Gennie
I can't really answer your question, but my 74 Beetle has an alternator with the external regulator, and when we got it, one of the 3 wires connecting from D- to the regulator pulled out of the connector, which caused overcharging of the battery...
Do you want to hook the gennie up to get it working, or do you just want to test it to see if it produces any charge at all? If you want to know how the external regulator connects to my car's alternator, see http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7860
I made that diagram to help "SUZIE" out with wiring, but like I said, that was for an alternator, so I suppose wiring for the Gennie's are a bit different...

Re: T3 Gennie
The D+ ( thick wire) goes to the regulator to term D+ t.
The DF ( skinny wire) goes to the regulator DF term
The D- might only be a earth wirethat also runs to the regulator D- term
Some aftermarket units dont have the exact same terminal I.D as the orighnal Bosch ones
It does not matter if a gennie runs "free" (that is not connected ). No damage will result

Re: T3 Gennie
With the help of calooker I figured out that the regulator was stuffed. So,off I went to Bosch to buy a new one.
R789.00 later!!!!
The genuine Bosch part, but the price is outrageous!

Re: T3 Gennie
Hi there chris, I have a few regulators amongst my goodies.
Firstly, is yours 6v or 12v I would imagine that it is mounted under the rear seat, and not on the gennie(a la early type 1)
Let me know what you have there and i will look thru this stuff for you.
cheers
Bill
