Hi guys. My name is Lourens. I am not yet a member of any VW club. I recently bought a Beach Buggy with a 1600 single port engine and now I am stuck in a small town (Vredenburg, Western Cape) where I can't find ANY air cooled-engine spares. The guy selling the bug lied about the condition of the engine. It has 1x cracked piston, worn out rings all-round, NO head gaskets (causing smoke to come out between the head and barrels) and 1x cracked head. I only noticed the smoke after driving for a week. I think he doctored the oil with some "Stop Smoke" crap. Needless to say, he left the area so I cannot reverse the purchase. But apart from that; I have always been and will always be a Volkswagen fan and I will overhaul this engine myself! It's the easiest engine I've ever worked on. I plan on adding some external goodies on it to "pump" it a little. 8)

Welcome to the club.... there you go, your first VW club.
Everyone say Hi...

You just gave me an idea... we need to have a run up the west coast sometime.... I actually had lunch in Vredenburg last year (went for a drive and ended up there) at some local restaurant near the westcoast entrance to the town, really good homemade food. What I loved most was that the locals came to get take aways and they took home the plates. Then returned them washed!!! There still are some good places out there.

good luck with your engine. I am sure you will find what you are looking for on this sight, plus anything can be posted to make your life a bit easier.

Hi anyone....just looking into the South African and for me...an exotic VW-scene....

Doing old VWs for the last 20 years...having to many cars, and as my wife says...if I finish all my projects I would probarbly be the oldest man in the world....

...hope to pick up some vibes from the SA-scene....since Rostyle-rims are the only thing I know about....

I have a set of Rostyles for my 67 convertible bug...hoping to track down a set og 3 of center caps for the rims...

Dont take any notice of Chrome Dome TonyZ, he is never in the country long enough to start his bug, or sort out all the uncompleted items on it, never mind go on a beetle run.... :flash: :flash:  :flash: :flash: But then again he will show up in his zoom zoom and tag along at the back.... :drunks: And I suppose his had more runs than I have :toilet: :toilet: :toilet: :moon: :jumping: :jumping:

Hi Guys

It's great to find this forum.

I have been a VW fan since the day my dad bought me my first Beetle, a blue 1976 1600 beauty. After I started making my own money I bought a grey and white bay window kombi that was my pride and joy until I moved from CT to Jhb when I had to sell it.

Ever since then I've had that sad feeling of still being in love with them, but not actually owning my own one

My greatest ambition is to find another kombi in good condition, for not too much bucks.

I look forward to chatting to you guys and girls about these beautiful machines.

Cheers,

Bradley

Hello

My car is a 1978 1200 Beetle. One of the last to come out of the German factory. Commonly known as a last edition. Had the car for nearly 20 years !!

Travel to South Africa every couple of years to see a very dear friend of mine and his family.

Hello all!!
