2110 for a '60 type1

Post by CALTRIGGER »

Hi,

Looks like I've decided to go the 2110cc way, 90.5 P&C for good cooling. Going with dual carbs and pretty much all new parts... Think this should e strong and reliable acording to all the help I've got... Any advise on this?

OK, I guess that answers my question.....

Looks like you have done a bit of thinking about this.
My little advice....
Why not go for a 2161cc
Its something a bit different, if you want to be out of the ordinary.....

YOu know the rave these days is to build a close-to-possible "square" engine. Meaning that if you go for 90.5 Pistons, try and match it with a crankshaft as close as possible with a 90.5 crankshaft(the closest to this 'off the shelf' is a 88-something crankshaft?). It is supposed to be a good match between performance and reliability. :zhelp:

Hey Gazz,

Chirco came beack to me today, after giving them a call. $1621...thats the same spec as the 1915cc they have o their package deal page just $350 more for the increase in displacement, think it's worth it... Just need to secure funds and I'm oredring, probably in a few months time...will stay in touch though...

I hate to be the one to say it... but just remember that by buying a cheap kit doesnt mean you are getting the full house in treatment....
Good power, good price, good reliability. Choose 2 cause you cant have all 3.

I just had a look at the kits.... here is what I saw.

1) heads are stock except for the 40x35 valves. No mention if they have been bored out for the 94mm pistons or not. No work done to them, so you will limit yourself to around 100hp if you use them. Might as well stick with a 1915 then. Remember, its the ports that limit flow, not the valves, I have got just over 90hp out of stock valve heads on a 1600 without even trying (2 hours porting in total) - that engine cost me R2000 and 2 days.

2) its not full flow, you will have to do that yourself

3) no HD pushrods and no mention of HD valve springs

4) not balanced

5) old con-rods

6) no induction

Then you still have to clearance the case.... the parts will arrive, dont forget about shipping costs. Then add 34% import duty. By the time you get that engine running, it will have cost you double what you are looking to spend on it, unless you go cheap...

30 year old con-rods on a HP engine.... for an extra $20 or $30 you can get new reproduction conrods...

You are going to be in for a surprise when you see what its going to cost you. If I were you, on a slight budget, I would go for the 1915cc kit and spec it up with decent con-rods, good heads, good carbs, .......

But hey, thats my opinion, and only an opinion

Thanks Tony,

Been checking al the parts and chatting to Bugger all the time... Looking into the rods and the heads, thanks for the input. Those heads have been worked for the 90.5 P&C according to them and it is balanced... Have the numbers on shipping and import too.. It's not cheap but still a lot cheaper than buying the same thing locally...
