I was cruising last night when for no reason - that I can think of, or find - I heard a loud indistinguishable sound and then my speedometer went Nuts.
Anything over about 45kph and the sound starts, increasing with the speed.
I've now disconnected the speedo cable, which eliminates the sound so that is definately the cause.
Any idea's?
Should I just replace the cable or what?
Is it a universal thing, or what?
Cheers, N.

Speedometer noise?
"Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car, and oversteer, the rear.
Hp is how fast you hit the wall, and Torque is how far you take the wall with you."

it happened to me once. Also disconnted the cable. After a few weeks, I put it back in and the sound was gone.
Another one of those great engineering things. "what was wrong?"
"well, chief, I took it apart, couldnt find anything wrong, so I put it back together and now it works".

...sometimes I think they just need fresh air or something.
I put it back for today's RWC and although they never failed me, that was the only comment besides "Oooh" and "Aaah" in general that I got from them. *lol*

Kewl; thanks.
Can the cable be replaced, or is it like a fuel guage which needs complete replacement, looking at mine [fuel guage]?

I have had a simillar problem, sounded like a Checkers plastic bag blowing in the wind, I could feel the vibration if I put my fingers on the clock face, it stopped after a day or so, problem was that the needle still indicated the speed but the counter stopped counting the distance traveled, I just replaced with another clock I had. My guess is that the plastic gears inside the clock got stripped, I never opened it so I can't tell for sure.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

'k. IMPI might have one for me, so when the cash starts flowing again...
I had to run around thye sh
thole areas of Jo'burg this morning sorting out my bug papers and after yesterday disconnected the speedo and forgot about it...
My fuel guage has read 'full' for about two months now - it's also disconnected and awaiting the import of a LHD replacement.
Imagine my surprise when I got to work at lunch and glanced down to see a 'full' tank, and still low mileage on the new engine...
"WtF?"
"I'm sure I've driven more than that today..."
It only hit me some time later this afternoon...
*lol*
