Post by SUZIE »

I never had thsi problem and now that i have a Buyer for the bugy it suddenly is slipping out of 4th gear so now and then, i know i have not driven the buggy for close to 2 months, can it be that the gearbox oil is a bit low or is it cincros that is on its way out?

I must say for standing so long the engine did not even hesitate to start, idles a bit high
have nothing on the cards now, but have a red beach buggy in sight that I want

Had the same problem with the buggy, happened unexpectedly in the middle of nowhere. Seems like the gearbox was low on oil, and some damage was done. (But I learned to hook my left knee over the gear lever while driving, and only changed the gearbox a year later  )
i have not driven the buggy for close to 2 months
Now don't it always seem to go

do a search thru the CSP website, somewhere in there they have a document on how to adjust the gear-lever position to get perfect gear selection

You might be lucky and get away with an adjustment at the lever. That normally fixes a slipping reverse gear. But for fourth it might mean your selector detent springs in the 'box is shot and thus its not keeping it in the selected gear. Bugger might have the most experience on the subject. :)

Is it slipping out every time or not

Apologies for the photo Quality when slipping out of a gear is when the Helix of a gear or gear selector hub is worn
The helix is basically the small teeth looking things that when you select a gear the detent ball and spring let the selector shaft only move to a certain position to shift the selector hub move over the Helix part of the gear and then they both "HOOK" this angle is for aceleration aswell oppisite for deaceleration for the gear not to slip out and if the Hooking edges are worn they will slip out of gear iether on acc or decell

The selector fork does not really hold the gears in gear but the helix

You might be able to set the linkage gearlever a little tighter but that will not really solf the jumping out of gear

Is the trans mounts ok when they are really loose Worn soft when you accelerate it can also pull the buggy out of gear but that normally only happend in 1st gear and check your selector coupler in the chassis may be it is also loose and the sometimes not engage 4th all the way in to the helix

I once had a problem with my bug popping out of 3rd and also being very difficult to get into 3rd.
Duh *slaps head*

after 2 days I realise that my radio's face case was in my centre console pushing the gear lever out everytime I tried to put it into 3rd. Moved the case and all was OK.

Sorry, hijack. Good for stupid laughs...
