There may be something in this. I was chatting about the rash of Beetle thefts to someone at work and they told me some horror stories of older model cars being stolen and turning up in Moz. Just a thought about the way we display our vehicles so proudly on this site.
The toy guys never let anybody take photos of their collections. A while back they found guys taking pics of their collections, finding a market for them, then stealing them.
From here they know where the car more or less is, and what condition.
Like I said, just a thought.

I also wonder about the dark world... my beetle was tampered with luckily not stolen at the shopping centre in Centurion.. about a week after it was on your Yo TV show.... could that have been a connection???/ maybe posting pictures on the web might not be such a good idea after all!!!!
